About this replacement
Emporia Talk Comfort / Essence Plus Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AK-RL2)
This is a 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion cell for Emporia phones using the AK-RL2 battery. It fits the Talk Comfort, Essence Plus, TALKbasic, V20, and 13 additional Emporia models sharing the same battery bay and connector. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge across a normal day.
- Multi-model fitment across the Emporia range: These phones share a common 53.40 × 33.80 × 5.60mm cell format, the same 3.7V rail, and a compatible BMS handshake — so one part number covers the full group without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the cell through charge and discharge on Emporia Talk Comfort hardware. The BMS accepted the charge IC handshake cleanly, held voltage above 3.5V through mid-discharge, and triggered the low-voltage cutoff correctly at the rated floor.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before resuming normal use. This gives the Emporia fuel gauge IC a full reference curve against the new cell — skipping it causes erratic percentage readings for days.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Emporia Talk Comfort after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell. When the new cell hits a voltage dip under screen or network load, the IC misreads remaining capacity and fires a low-voltage shutdown — even though the display shows 20–30% left. The fix is one full uninterrupted discharge-to-shutdown cycle followed by a full charge. After that single calibration cycle, the gauge maps correctly to the new cell's actual voltage curve and shutdowns at false percentages stop.
Phone not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells stored unused for several months can drop below 2.5V per cell — the threshold where the BMS locks out to prevent damage. The phone will show nothing on screen and refuse to respond to the charge cable for the first several minutes. Connect to a wall adapter rated at least 5V/1A and leave it undisturbed for 15–20 minutes. The BMS trickle-charges the cell back above the lockout floor and normal charging then resumes automatically.
