It slots into the same bay as the original cell and restores suction power when the factory pack no longer holds a useful charge. Capacity is rated at 21.6Wh and matches the original specification.
- ETA 1437 Ponto fit: The Ponto runs a 7.2V Ni-MH pack at a fixed voltage rail that feeds the motor directly. Swapping chemistry or voltage here causes the motor controller to under- or over-drive the brushes — this cell matches the original voltage and connector to keep the motor operating within its rated range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the 1437 Ponto platform, confirmed the charger completed a full charge cycle without fault, and verified the BMS did not trigger an early cutoff under simulated suction load.
- Dock charging on the Ponto: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Ni-MH cells in continuous trickle charge develop capacity fade faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock.
Why the Ponto loses suction before the battery indicator reaches low
Ni-MH voltage sags under load before the cell is fully discharged. On the 1437 Ponto, this means the motor receives insufficient voltage to maintain airflow while the indicator still shows charge remaining. A partially blocked filter compounds this — restricted airflow forces the motor to draw harder, accelerating the voltage drop. Clean the filter before attributing early suction loss to battery age. If suction recovers after filter cleaning, the cell is likely fine.
Motor cuts out mid-use and then recovers after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the Ponto's motor draws more current than the pack's protection circuit allows — typically caused by a clogged filter or blockage at the nozzle — the BMS shuts the output to protect the cell. After the pack cools slightly, output resumes. Clear the blockage or clean the filter, then resume use. If the cutout recurs on a clean filter with a new battery, check the nozzle path for a partial obstruction and verify the pack voltage reads at least 7.2V off the charger before use.
