Solenoid activation causing power dropout on a new BP7.2 battery

When the crane remote triggers a solenoid or contactor, the coil draws a short inrush spike — often two to three times the steady-state current. If the pack is at partial charge, internal resistance rises enough that voltage sags below the transmitter's cutoff threshold during that spike. The remote drops out even though the battery shows charge remaining. A full charge before use keeps internal resistance low and prevents the sag from crossing the cutoff point.

New Ni-MH packs ship at storage voltage — typically 60–70% of rated capacity — not full charge. The BP7.2 transmitter reads terminal voltage to determine battery state, so a pack at storage voltage registers as low immediately on power-up. This is not a fault with the cell. Connect the remote to its charger for a full charge cycle before first use, and the low-battery indicator will clear once the pack reaches operating voltage.
