FEIN ASCT 18 / ASCM 18 Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (B18A.165.01)
This is an 18V 3000mAh (54Wh) lithium-ion replacement battery for the FEIN ASCT 18, ASCT 18 M, ASCM 18, ASCM 18 QX, and compatible models. It slots into the same battery rail used across the FEIN 18V cordless range. Voltage and capacity match the OEM spec exactly.
- ASCT and ASCM 18V platform fit: These models share a common 18V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The same pack services both the standard ASCT 18 and the higher-draw ASCM 18 QX without any adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through simulated oscillating tool load cycles on an 18V test rig. The BMS held stable across repeated motor-start inrush spikes and did not false-trip on startup. Cell voltage balanced correctly across all discharge phases.
- Motor inrush break-in on first use: On first use, run the ASCT 18 at half load for two cycles before full cutting or grinding applications. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and calibrate its overcurrent threshold before you push maximum torque.
BMS cutoff on ASCT 18 trigger-pull inrush surge
The ASCT 18 oscillating head generates a sharp current spike the moment the trigger is pulled — especially when blade contact is immediate. If the BMS has no prior load profile for that motor, it can interpret the inrush as a fault and cut power within milliseconds of startup. This is not a cell failure; it is a protection trip. Running two light-load cycles first gives the BMS enough data to set a realistic overcurrent threshold. After break-in, trigger-pull trips on a fresh pack should stop.
Charger not recognising pack after storage — red blink or no response
Li-ion cells that sit unused for several months can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage floor — typically around 2.5V per cell. The FEIN charger reads this as a damaged or missing pack and either blinks red or shows no activity at all. The fix is a brief recovery charge: place the battery on the charger, remove it after 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly. Repeat two or three times until the charger registers the pack and begins a normal charge cycle. If cell voltage has dropped below 2.0V per cell, recovery is not possible.
