Fluke 754 / 753 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP7240)
The BP7240 is a 7.4V, 5200mAh lithium-ion battery for the Fluke 754 and 753 Process Calibrators, including the 754 VIP1 and VIP2 variants. These instruments are used in industrial environments to generate and measure process signals during loop calibration and HART device diagnostics. This pack matches the original voltage rail and connector configuration for those four models.
- 754 / 753 platform compatibility: The 754, 753, 754 VIP1, and 754 VIP2 all share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. All four models draw from the same 7.4V nominal rail and expect the same charge termination handshake — swapping between units does not require reconfiguration.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the 754's probe power-up sequence, HART burst mode, and sustained 4–20mA sourcing. The BMS held stable through the inrush current at sensor initialisation and did not trip the low-voltage cutoff during multi-channel logging sessions.
- First deployment on the 754: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument's menu before taking it into the field. The 754 maps battery state during that cycle — skipping it causes the low-battery warning to fire early on the first measurement session, even when the pack is at full charge.

Lithium-ion cells drop below the BMS recovery threshold if the instrument sits dormant for several months — common when calibrators rotate through a seasonal maintenance schedule. When cell voltage falls under approximately 2.5V per cell, the protection circuit locks out charge input as a safety measure. To recover the pack, place it in the Fluke BC7240 charger rather than charging through the instrument's USB port — the external charger applies a low-current pre-charge stage that the instrument itself does not. Once the pack reaches 3.0V per cell, normal charging resumes.

The 754 uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate charge level — it does not track coulombs. When a new or recently recovered pack is installed, the instrument reads an open-circuit voltage and maps it to a percentage using its stored lookup table. That table was calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve, so a fresh pack at 8.2V may display 70% rather than 100% on first boot. Run two full charge-and-use cycles, and the displayed percentage will align with actual cell state.
