The DreamTab HD8 runs an 8-inch display alongside WiFi and background app processes simultaneously. Under that combined load, the cell voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC can track — the board reads a safe percentage but the actual terminal voltage has already crossed the low-voltage cutoff threshold. The BMS trips and shuts the device down before the screen reports zero. One full recalibration cycle — discharge to auto shutoff, then uninterrupted charge to 100% — resyncs the fuel gauge and pushes the premature cutoff point back to below 5%.

The fuel gauge IC stored calibration data from the original cell — capacity, internal resistance curve, and discharge slope. A new cell has different characteristics, so the existing calibration reads incorrectly from the first boot. You will typically see the percentage jump or drop suddenly, or read 100% while the tablet shuts off within minutes. Force a recalibration: discharge fully to automatic shutoff, then charge in one uninterrupted session to 100% at 5V via the standard charge port.
