The LifeBook BIOS reads health data stored in the battery's EEPROM and compares it against historical cycle data from the old pack. This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The OS thinks 20% remaining equals a safe voltage floor, but the mapped curve is wrong — the cell hits real minimum voltage sooner than expected under CPU and display load. The fix is a full calibration cycle: discharge to automatic hibernate, then charge to 100% without interruption. After two to three cycles the fuel gauge IC locks onto the correct voltage-to-capacity curve and the early shutdowns stop.
