- First charge after storage: If the shears have been sitting unused, run a full charge before the first cut — Li-ion cells that have self-discharged below a threshold need a gentle top-up cycle to recalibrate the BMS state-of-charge reading.
Why 7.4V matters in a compact shrub shear
The ComfortCut platform runs two Li-ion cells in series to hit 7.4V nominal. That voltage level gives the blade motor enough torque to cut through woody stems without the weight penalty of a higher-voltage pack. Staying within the original voltage spec also protects the motor windings from over-current stress.
Shears power on but cut sluggishly — cause and fix
Sluggish blade speed usually means the pack is supplying voltage but sagging under load — a sign the original cells have degraded internal resistance. The motor draws its full current at the start of each cut cycle, and a weak cell can't sustain it. Fitting a fresh pack with healthy cell impedance restores full blade speed from the first stroke.
