Garmin Nuvi 3597 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00070-00)
This 3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Nuvi 3597LMT, 3597LMTHD, 3598, and related variants. It matches OEM part numbers 361-00070-00 and 361-00070-01. When the original cell no longer holds charge, this unit restores normal GPS operation.
- Nuvi 3597 series compatibility: These models share the same 3.7V cell format, connector pin-out, and BMS communication protocol. The same physical cell and protection circuit works across the 3597LMT, 3597LMTHD, and 3598 without any wiring changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Nuvi 3597LMT unit. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the charge controller reached full-charge cutoff correctly at 4.2V.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. A full cold start — triggered by any complete power interruption — can take 5–10 minutes for first lock. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once the almanac is cached.
GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Nuvi 3597
When cell voltage drops toward the low-battery threshold, the Nuvi 3597 series reduces power draw to the GPS receiver module. This lowers receiver sensitivity, which can degrade position accuracy or cause the fix to drift. You may notice the vehicle icon jumping or the route losing position lock on weak signal roads. Keeping the cell above 3.6V during active navigation avoids this behaviour.
Nuvi 3597 shuts off without warning before the battery indicator reaches empty
After a battery replacement, the on-screen charge indicator is uncalibrated against the new cell's discharge curve. The unit's voltage-threshold cutoff can trigger a hard shutdown while the indicator still shows one bar. This is not a fault in the battery or the device — the indicator recalibrates over two to three full charge and discharge cycles. Run the unit through those cycles on active navigation, and the shut-off behaviour will align with the visual indicator.
