This is a 7.4V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 5200mAh (38.48Wh) for the Garmin Aera 795 and Aera 796 portable aviation GPS navigators. It replaces OEM part numbers 010-11756-04, 361-00055-00, and 361-00055-01. It restores full power to the unit when the original cell has degraded past usable capacity.
- Aera 795 and 796 compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The same 7.4V cell with matching physical footprint of 85.00 × 77.90 × 23.35mm fits either unit without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the bench. The BMS held charge termination correctly at full voltage, and the protection circuit responded normally to load fluctuations from the GPS receiver and backlit display running simultaneously.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this battery, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a full satellite fix before flight. Removing all power clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris cache, triggering a cold start that takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for a warm start once the almanac is rebuilt.
Why the Aera 795 shuts off without warning during flight
The Aera 795 reads remaining charge from a fuel gauge calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. When a new or degraded cell has a slightly different curve, the unit's charge indicator reads higher than actual. The device hits its low-voltage cutoff threshold before the on-screen indicator reaches the warning level. To recalibrate, run two full charge-discharge cycles — the fuel gauge relearns the curve and the warning fires at the correct point.
Saved flight routes and POIs missing after battery replacement
The Aera 795 stores some navigation data in battery-backed RAM. A complete power removal — as happens during a battery swap — can wipe routes and custom POIs that were held in volatile memory rather than written to flash. Waypoints and flight plans saved explicitly to the internal storage are not affected. Before swapping the battery, export any active routes via the unit's data transfer menu to a connected PC to avoid loss.
