This is a 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion cell built to replace the original battery in the Garmin Approach G8 golf GPS. The Approach G8 is a handheld golf navigator with course mapping, shot distance, and scoring functions. When the original cell degrades, the device can no longer hold enough charge to complete an 18-hole round.

Why the Approach G8 shuts off without warning at low battery
The G8 reads battery percentage from a voltage curve stored at the factory. When an aged cell's voltage drops steeply in the final 20% of capacity, the device hits its shutdown threshold before the on-screen indicator reaches zero. This is a calibration gap — not a fault with the new cell. After fitting a fresh 1050mAh cell, run two full charge-discharge cycles outdoors to let the device re-map the voltage curve. The warning indicator will then trigger at the correct point.
GPS accuracy drops noticeably during active navigation at low charge
The Approach G8 receiver reduces signal sensitivity to conserve power when battery voltage falls below roughly 3.5V. At that threshold, weaker satellite signals drop out and positional accuracy degrades — yardages can shift by several metres. This is intentional power-saving behaviour, not a hardware fault. Keep the cell above 3.6V during a round by charging fully before play; the receiver runs at full sensitivity until that voltage floor is reached.
