Why the Nuvi 2797 shuts off without warning at low battery
The Nuvi 2797 reads battery level through a fuel-gauge circuit calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. When an aged or replacement cell has a slightly different internal resistance, the fuel gauge can misread the remaining capacity. The device thinks it has more charge left than it does, so the low-battery warning either appears very briefly or not at all before the BMS cuts power. Running one or two full charge-discharge cycles after installation re-aligns the gauge to the new cell's actual curve — after that, the on-screen indicator tracks correctly.
GPS accuracy dropping noticeably during the final stretch of charge
Some Nuvi units step down receiver sensitivity as cell voltage falls below approximately 3.5V — a power-saving behaviour baked into the firmware. The result is fewer satellites tracked and wider position error on the map, which shows up as the route line drifting off the road. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Keeping the unit plugged into the car charger during long sessions holds voltage above the threshold and keeps receiver performance consistent. If you notice accuracy degrading, check the on-screen battery indicator — if it reads below two bars, connect the charger.
