Why this battery

  • Fits Garmin Nuvi 700 with two-wire connector, replaces OEM part 010-00657-05.
  • 3.7V, 1250mAh lithium-polymer cell powers navigation and mapping on this portable GPS unit.
  • Two-wire connector seats straight into the battery slot with no locking tab involved.
  • We bench-tested this cell in a Nuvi 700 dock — BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
  • After installing this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow five to ten minutes for satellite acquisition before navigation use.

About this replacement

Garmin Nuvi 700 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (010-00657-05)

This 3.7V, 1250mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Nuvi 700 (2-wire connector) portable GPS navigator. It restores the unit's ability to run navigation, mapping, and real-time route guidance away from a vehicle power source. Rated at 4.63Wh, it matches the original cell's voltage rail and physical footprint.

  • Nuvi 700 2-wire fitment: The Nuvi 700 uses a dedicated 2-wire connector with no fuel-gauge data line — the device reads voltage directly to estimate charge level. This cell matches that connector pinout and the BMS stays within the voltage window the Nuvi 700 expects, preventing false low-battery shutoffs at the top of the charge curve.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Nuvi 700 unit. The BMS held a stable 4.2V at full charge and cut off cleanly at the lower threshold without triggering premature shutdown.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell and powering on, take the GPS outdoors before first use. A full power interruption clears the ephemeris cache, so the unit runs a cold start — first satellite fix takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the cache rebuilds.

Why the Nuvi 700 shuts off without warning at low battery

The Nuvi 700 estimates remaining charge by reading cell voltage — it does not use a coulomb counter. After years of use, the original cell's internal resistance rises, causing voltage to sag sharply under the display and GPS receiver load. The unit hits its low-voltage cutoff before the on-screen indicator reaches one bar, so the device just goes dark with no warning. A new cell with lower internal resistance holds voltage flat under load, and the on-screen indicator tracks more accurately again.

Saved routes and favourites missing after battery swap

The Nuvi 700 stores favourites and saved routes in flash memory, but some session data and recent destinations sit in battery-backed RAM. A full power removal — which battery replacement causes — flushes that volatile memory. Favourites saved to the unit's internal storage before the swap should survive, but unsaved recent destinations and active route progress will not. Before pulling the old cell, back up favourites via Garmin's My Trips or note the coordinates manually, then reload them after the new cell is fitted and the unit has booted cleanly.
