BIOS reporting battery health as poor after fitting the new cell
The U2142 BIOS stores charge history and wear data from the previous cell in its own memory — not on the battery itself. When a new cell is fitted, the BIOS compares current readings against stale data from the old cell and flags the health as poor or degraded. This is not a fault with the replacement. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by an uninterrupted full charge resets the learn cycle. After two to three cycles, the health indicator updates to reflect the new cell accurately.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The gauge misreads remaining capacity and the system hits a low-voltage cutoff before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The fix is to complete at least two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles without manual shutdown at any point. After calibration cycles complete, the OS fuel gauge tracks the new cell accurately down to the correct cutoff voltage of approximately 6.0V under load.
