Ni-MH cells leave storage at a reduced resting voltage — often below the threshold the Genesy BMS expects to see during its boot verification step. The device interprets this low resting voltage as a fault rather than a new, uncharged cell. A full charge cycle before first use brings the cell to the correct voltage window, allowing the BMS to pass the boot check. If the boot failure persists after one full charge, check that the battery contacts are clean and fully seated.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge cycle
On first charge, the Genesy charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unfamiliar cell — this is normal BMS behaviour, not a fault. The charge cycle will terminate earlier than expected because the IC has not yet learned the cell's full capacity curve. Run one complete charge-discharge-charge cycle and the charge IC recalibrates its endpoint detection. After that second charge, the indicator should reach full charge at the correct point.
