GODOX AD200 / AD200 Pro — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W29)
This is a 14.4V 2900mAh (41.76Wh) lithium-ion battery pack for the GODOX AD200 and AD200 Pro compact strobe lights. It slots into the base of the flash head and powers the capacitor recharge circuit between shots. Voltage and form factor match the original W29 spec exactly.
- AD200 and AD200 Pro compatibility: Both units use the same W29 battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The AD200 Pro added a faster recycle target but draws from the same 14.4V rail — this cell covers both bodies without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through repeated full-power capacitor recharge cycles on an AD200 body. The BMS held the discharge curve steady across the session, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage threshold without requiring a manual reset.
- First-fit power cycle on the AD200: After inserting a new cell, power the flash fully off and back on before firing a shot. The AD200's BMS handshake only initialises correctly from a cold start — fitting the battery while the unit is in standby or swapping mid-session can leave the charge controller reading stale state data.
Why AD200 flash output steps down after 10–15 full-power shots
The AD200 capacitor pulls a high recharge current after every full-power discharge. If the cell's internal resistance is elevated — common in aged or deeply cycled batteries — voltage sags briefly during that recharge spike. The flash firmware reads the sag as a low-battery condition and steps output down to protect the circuit. A fresh cell with lower internal resistance holds the voltage rail steady through the same current draw, keeping output consistent across a full shoot.
Recycle time noticeably slower on a brand-new W29 cell
New lithium-ion cells often have slightly higher internal resistance before the electrolyte fully wets the electrode layers — this is normal and not a fault. On the AD200, slower recycle on the first few uses means the capacitor is taking longer to reach full charge voltage, typically around 330V for full power. Running five to ten full-power shoot-and-recycle cycles conditions the cell and lowers resistance measurably. After that break-in period, recycle time drops back to the expected figure for a 14.4V 2900mAh pack.
