GPS accuracy reduced when the Golf Buddy Plus battery runs low
As cell voltage drops toward the lower cutoff threshold, some Golf Buddy units reduce GPS receiver sensitivity to preserve enough power to keep the display active. This shows up as position drift or distance readings that lag behind your actual location on the course. A degraded original battery that can't hold voltage under the receiver's draw will trigger this behaviour even if the indicator still shows partial charge. Replacing the cell restores the full voltage headroom the receiver needs to maintain normal sensitivity.
Golf Buddy Plus shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty
The on-screen battery gauge is calibrated against the discharge curve of a new cell. As the original battery ages, its internal resistance rises and voltage sags faster under GPS receiver load — the unit hits its hardware cutoff threshold before the gauge reaches the last bar. This isn't a firmware bug; it's voltage collapse under load outrunning what the indicator predicts. Fitting a new cell with a healthy discharge curve re-aligns the cutoff point with the visual warning. After the first full charge cycle, verify the device shuts off correctly by charging to 4.2V and running it through a full discharge.
