Removing the battery cuts power entirely, which drops the active Bluetooth Low Energy session between the watch and the paired phone. The phone retains the pairing record but the watch comes back up without a live BLE link. Open the Bluetooth settings on the phone, forget the Pixel Watch 3, then re-initiate pairing from the watch's settings menu. The watch must be on and showing the home screen — not on the charger boot screen — before the phone can complete the handshake.
