This is a 12V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery built to replace the RGRO1215 in Gross Funk crane remote controls. It fits the SE889, K2, T24, T30, and several other models in the Gross Funk wireless remote lineup. Voltage and cell count match the original spec exactly.
- SE889, K2, T24, T30 compatibility: These models share the same 12V battery platform, connector pinout, and BMS handshake requirements. A single cell configuration covers all of them without modification or adapter wiring.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge cycles on the SE889 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes. Solenoid activation draws were handled without voltage dropout at the measured inrush spikes.
- Ni-MH charge memory on crane remotes: Ni-MH cells develop a false memory effect if repeatedly charged from a partial state. On crane remotes used in shift rotations, top-up charging a half-depleted pack shortens usable capacity over time. Run the pack down fully once every 10 charge cycles to reset the voltage curve.
Solenoid activation causing power dropout on first use
When a fresh replacement pack is installed at storage voltage — typically 10.8V to 11.2V for Ni-MH — the first solenoid or relay activation pulls a current inrush spike the BMS may read as an overload. The result is an immediate shutdown that looks like a dead battery. This is not a fault with the pack. Connect the battery to the charger for a full cycle first, bringing all cells to 12V before operating any load-switching functions on the remote.

Ni-MH cells ship at partial charge to meet transport regulations. The SE889 and similar Gross Funk remotes read cell voltage directly and display a low-battery warning when voltage sits below the threshold — even with a brand-new pack. This is a voltage reading, not a capacity fault. Charge the battery fully before the first use and the indicator will clear.
