Hi-Target A16 / V98 / iRTK5 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-6800)
The BL-6800 is a 7.4V 5200mAh lithium-ion battery for Hi-Target GNSS receivers and total stations. It fits the A16, TS7, V98, and iRTK5 Host Bag. Capacity is 38.48Wh — sufficient for full field sessions without mid-day swaps.
- A16, TS7, V98, and iRTK5 compatibility: These units share the same 7.4V battery rail, BL-6800 footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. One battery pack covers all four instruments — no pin remapping or firmware flag needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through cold-start initialisation, satellite lock acquisition, and sustained RTK logging. The BMS held steady through the receiver's antenna power-up current spike without tripping into protection mode.
- First-deployment calibration: After fitting a new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before heading to site. The receiver maps battery state during calibration — skipping this causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session, even when the pack is at full charge.
BMS lockout after the A16 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS trips into deep-discharge lockout and the instrument won't power on — it won't even show a charging indicator. Place the battery on a compatible charger and leave it for up to 30 minutes; most BMS circuits will accept a trickle recovery charge at that threshold. Once cell voltage climbs above 3.0V per cell, normal charging resumes and the instrument will recognise the pack again.
Instrument shuts down during USB data transfer to PC
Data transfer over USB adds a second draw on top of active receiver processing — combined load can pull the battery below the BMS cutoff threshold faster than field measurement alone. This usually happens when the pack has partial charge rather than a full one. Top the battery to 100% before connecting to a PC for data offload. If shutdowns persist, check that the USB cable is data-only and not simultaneously attempting to charge the instrument from a low-output port, which can confuse the power management circuit.
