The AP80's amplifier stage requires a higher minimum operating voltage than the display's fuel gauge is calibrated to show. When a degraded or new uncalibrated cell starts sagging under load, the amp rail drops below its minimum threshold while the screen still shows one or two bars. This is not a firmware bug — it is voltage sag under the combined DAC and amp draw. After fitting a fresh cell, run two full charge-discharge cycles at low gain to let the fuel gauge recalibrate against the new cell's actual discharge curve.
AP80 audio clipping or distortion at moderate volume on a fresh battery
Clipping on a new cell usually means the BMS is tripping momentarily under the instantaneous current spike that the output stage demands at higher signal peaks. This is distinct from a flat battery — the device stays on but the audio breaks up. The AP80's output stage can pull short bursts of current that exceed what an unconditioned cell delivers cleanly. Charge the cell fully, then play pink noise at 60% volume for one full discharge before using high-gain or high-volume output.
