Ignition pulse demand and why the GX120ME battery flattens faster than expected
The GX120ME fires a high-current ignition pulse each shot rather than drawing steady current like a drill or saw. That spike — repeated hundreds of times — stresses the cell more than its rated mAh suggests. Li-MnO2 chemistry handles this better than standard Li-ion because it tolerates higher pulse discharge without voltage collapse. Still, a cell weakened by age or deep discharge will fail this pulse test before the capacity indicator reads empty.
Tool fires but fastener doesn't seat — battery output is the first thing to check
When fasteners drive shallow or skip flush, the ignition pulse is the first suspect. A low-voltage cell delivers a weaker spark, which produces an incomplete burn and reduced piston drive. This happens before the tool shows any obvious power fault — it still fires, but output energy is down. Measure resting cell voltage: anything below 3.9V on a 4.5V Li-MnO2 cell means the pack is too depleted for consistent firing and needs replacing.
