HiTi Pringo P231 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PB231)
This 7.4V, 700mAh Li-ion battery is a direct replacement for the HiTi Pringo P231 portable photo printer. It fits both the standard Pringo P231 and the Pringo P231 Photo Printer variant. OEM part numbers PB231 and PB231(2ICP5/31/48) both cross to this cell.
- Pringo P231 platform fit: Both P231 variants share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The cell dimensions — 63.85 x 55.35 x 7.36mm — must match exactly for the battery door to close and the BMS to authenticate correctly.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the P231. The BMS authenticated without fault codes, current draw through the thermal head and paper feed motor stayed within spec, and no voltage sag triggered a low-battery cutoff during a print run.
- First-print calibration after install: After fitting the new battery, charge it fully and then print five test pages before using it for a real job. The P231's paper feed motor draws a brief high-current pulse on each feed cycle — running a short print sequence lets the BMS log the current profile of the new cell and prevents false low-battery shutdowns on the first real print job.
Why the Pringo P231 refuses to print after sitting unused for weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly during storage. The P231's BMS sets a minimum voltage threshold — roughly 6.0V — below which it will not release power to the thermal head or feed motor. A battery that reads as "present" on the display may still be below that threshold. Plug the printer into USB power and leave it on charge for at least 90 minutes before attempting a print. If the battery has dropped below the BMS recovery floor (typically around 5.5V on this cell), the BMS will not respond to a standard charge — you may need to replace the cell entirely.
Prints coming out faded or streaky on a charged battery
The P231's thermal print head requires a stable, sustained voltage to hold the correct temperature across the full width of a print. When the battery is partially discharged or the cell is aged, voltage sags under thermal head load — the head temperature drops mid-print, producing faded bands or uneven colour. This is not a cartridge or paper issue. Check the battery indicator before printing — if it shows anything below three-quarters charge, top up fully first. A fresh, fully charged replacement cell will restore consistent thermal head temperature and eliminate the streaking.
