This is a 4.8V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the HME COM 2000 wireless headset. It slots directly into the COM 2000 and restores power to the headset's audio and DECT radio functions. Part number BAT2000 matches the original cell configuration.
- COM 2000 cell configuration: The COM 2000 runs a 4.8V Ni-MH pack because the DECT radio and audio amplifier share a single power rail. Four NiMH cells in series hit the voltage threshold the headset's BMS expects. Swap to a different voltage and the headset won't power on.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the COM 2000 base station and confirmed the BMS completed a full charge handshake. The charge circuit accepted the cell and terminated correctly at capacity.
- First charge in base station: Seat the headset in the COM 2000 base and let it run a complete charge cycle before taking a call. The base logs the new cell during that first cycle — without it, the talk-time indicator reads inaccurately and the headset may cut off earlier than expected.
Base station not recognising new pack after battery swap
The COM 2000 base uses a handshake sequence to detect cell state before committing to a charge cycle. A new Ni-MH pack arrives at storage voltage — typically below 4.2V across four cells — which can confuse the charge controller into a standby loop. Remove the headset from the base, wait 10 seconds, then reseat it firmly. If the charge indicator still doesn't respond, confirm the contacts on the battery and headset housing are clean and making full contact.
Headset cutting out mid-call despite showing charged
The COM 2000 draws current from two sources simultaneously — the audio circuit and the DECT radio transmitter. On a degraded or newly installed cell, that combined load causes a brief voltage sag below the headset's cutoff threshold, which trips the BMS and drops the call. This is most common in the first few cycles on a new pack before the cells stabilise. After three to five full charge-discharge cycles, resting cell voltage firms up and the sag under combined load reduces significantly.
