This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still running the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell. The BMS then cuts output to protect the cell before the OS can react. One full slow-charge cycle — charge to 100%, drain to automatic shutdown, recharge fully — resets the coulomb counter reference and eliminates the false cutoff.
USB-PD fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement
Honor's proprietary fast charge protocol requires the charge IC to handshake with the battery BMS before stepping up current. On a brand-new cell, the BMS ships in a conservative state and may not respond to the fast charge negotiation request on the first charge attempt. Plug into the original Honor charger, not a third-party USB-PD adapter, and allow the first cycle to complete at whatever rate the charger establishes. By the second charge cycle, the BMS handshake completes normally and full fast charge current resumes — confirm this by checking that the phone displays the fast charging indicator within 30 seconds of connection.
