Why the 2133 Mini-Note BIOS reports poor battery health after a cell swap
The HP 2133 stores battery health data in EEPROM on the battery's embedded controller — not in the BIOS itself. When a new cell is installed, the BIOS reads residual health metrics written by the old cell and flags them as degraded. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running a full discharge-to-hibernate then an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the fuel gauge IC to rewrite the EEPROM baseline against the new cell's actual chemistry. After one or two complete cycles, the health warning clears and the reported capacity aligns with the 28.08Wh rating.

This happens when the cell voltage drops below the minimum threshold under combined CPU and display load before the OS fuel gauge reaches zero. The fuel gauge IC is calibrated against a different discharge curve than the new cell delivers, so it reads 20–30% remaining while the actual cell voltage is already at cutoff. It is not a faulty cell — it is a calibration mismatch. Run a full discharge to hibernate and a full uninterrupted charge twice; after those cycles the fuel gauge re-maps to the new cell's voltage curve and the early shutdowns stop.
