Why the Envy X2 11 shuts down at 15–25% after a battery swap
The HP embedded controller tracks a learned voltage-discharge curve from the original cell. A new cell has a different internal resistance and voltage slope at low charge states. When the EC sees the voltage drop faster than its stored curve predicts — typically under combined display brightness and WiFi load — it triggers an emergency cutoff before the gauge reaches 0%. One full calibration cycle teaches the EC the new cell's actual low-voltage behaviour and eliminates the early cutoff.
Fast charging not available after battery replacement on the Envy X2 11
The Envy X2 11 charge IC runs a negotiation sequence with the battery BMS on the first charge cycle after a new cell is installed. Until that handshake completes successfully, the firmware defaults to a conservative slow-charge rate as a safety measure. Plug in via the original HP AC adapter and allow one full uninterrupted charge to 100% — do not disconnect partway through. After that cycle, the charge IC accepts the higher rate and fast charging resumes at the expected wattage.
