BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting the new cell
HP's BIOS reads EEPROM data stored by the outgoing cell and compares it against the new cell's reported state. A fresh cell with no charge history looks inconsistent to the firmware, triggering a "battery not detected" or "poor health" flag. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is the BIOS misreading a clean slate. Run the Pavilion 10's battery learn cycle: discharge fully to hibernate, then charge to 100% without interruption. The BIOS clears the flag after one complete cycle.
Laptop shuts down abruptly when the charge indicator still shows 20–25%
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The IC carries over calibration data from the old, degraded cell and underestimates the voltage cliff. When combined CPU and display load pulls current hard, voltage drops faster than the gauge predicts, and the protection circuit trips before the displayed percentage reaches zero. Two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles reset the calibration. After the second cycle, the gauge tracks the new cell accurately and shutdowns stop.
