Why the Pavilion 15-CC BIOS flags a new battery as poor health
HP's BIOS stores battery health data from the previous cell in a learn table. When a new cell is installed, the BIOS compares live readings against that stored baseline and flags a mismatch as degraded health. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is a calibration gap. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate and full recharge cycle forces the BIOS to rebuild its learn table against the new cell's actual capacity curve. After that cycle, the health indicator in HP Support Assistant updates to reflect the real state of the new battery.
Pavilion 15-CC shutting down at 20–30% charge shown
This shutdown happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell and misjudges the voltage cliff. Under combined CPU and display load, actual cell voltage drops faster than the uncalibrated gauge predicts — the BIOS triggers an emergency shutdown before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The fix is the same calibration cycle: discharge fully to hibernate cutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. After two to three cycles the gauge tracks the new cell accurately and the premature shutdowns stop.
