This is a voltage-cliff failure, not a capacity problem. Under combined CPU boost and full display backload, the new cell's voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC has learned to anticipate. The BIOS sees a sudden voltage drop below its cutoff threshold and shuts the system down even though the state-of-charge reading still shows charge remaining. Running two or three full calibration cycles teaches the fuel gauge IC the actual discharge curve of the new cell. After calibration, the gauge tracks accurately and the premature cutoff stops.
BIOS reporting wrong Wh rating after cell replacement
HP's firmware reads the Wh rating directly from the cell's EEPROM, not from a live measurement. If the value displayed in HP Support Assistant or Device Manager doesn't match 51.98Wh, the BIOS hasn't refreshed its cached battery data yet. Force a full charge-discharge cycle and reboot. The firmware re-reads EEPROM on the next cold boot and the correct 51.98Wh figure should populate in system info.
