HP's BIOS reads EEPROM data written to the old cell and compares it against the new one at first boot. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by a complete uninterrupted charge gives the fuel gauge IC a baseline to work from. After two to three full cycles, the health reading stabilises and the warning clears. No BIOS update or driver change is needed.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell yet — it loses track of the actual voltage curve under combined CPU and display load. The cell hits its low-voltage cutoff before the OS percentage reaches zero. Run two full discharge cycles to hibernate, charging to 100% each time without interruption. After calibration, the OS percentage and actual cell voltage will align and the premature shutdowns stop.
