This 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original TOPA160 battery in the HTC Tattoo, CLIC100, and A3288 handsets. It restores power to calling, messaging, and app functions when the original cell has degraded or failed to hold charge. - Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting, disable any fast-charge mode and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle at standard current. This lets the phone's fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter to the new cell's discharge curve before applying higher charge rates.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the HTC Tattoo after a cell swap
The Tattoo's fuel gauge IC retains the discharge curve from the old cell after a swap. When actual cell voltage drops below roughly 3.5V under modem or display load, the phone shuts down even though the UI still shows charge remaining. This is a voltage cliff — the new cell's internal resistance differs from the worn original, and the fuel gauge hasn't caught up. One full discharge-to-charge cycle at standard current corrects the curve. After that cycle, the percentage readout tracks real remaining capacity accurately.
Phone won't power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage at roughly 2–3% per month. If the cell reached the BMS lockout threshold — typically below 2.5V — the protection circuit opens and blocks all current flow, including the charge current needed to recover it. Connect the phone to a wall charger, not a USB port, and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing the power button. Wall adapters deliver enough trickle current to nudge the cell above the BMS re-enable threshold, which sits around 2.9V on this platform.
