Why the Ascend Mate reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The new cell has a different impedance profile, so the percentage shown on screen drifts from actual charge state. One complete discharge to automatic shutdown followed by a full charge resets the coulomb counter and re-anchors the gauge to the new cell's curve.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet mapped the new cell's voltage cliff — the point where cell voltage drops sharply under modem or display load. The phone's reported percentage still shows 20–30%, but actual cell voltage sags below the hardware protection threshold the moment a high-draw process fires. Run one full calibration cycle first — discharge until the phone shuts itself off, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that cycle, the gauge maps the cliff correctly and shutdowns stop.
