This happens when the fuel gauge IC's stored discharge curve doesn't match the new cell's actual voltage cliff. The modem or display pulls a current spike, the cell voltage drops faster than the uncalibrated gauge predicts, and the protection circuit cuts power before the reported percentage reaches zero. It is not a faulty cell — it is a calibration gap. Force a full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption.
