- Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and complete one full discharge-to-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging begins on an uncalibrated cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Nova 2 Plus after a cell swap
This is a voltage cliff problem, not a capacity problem. When the modem transmits or the screen peaks in brightness, current draw spikes sharply. A new cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge IC may report 25% remaining while actual cell voltage has already dropped below the shutdown threshold under that load. The phone cuts out to protect the cell, even though the percentage display looked safe. One full slow-charge cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter and eliminates most of these early shutdowns.
Nova 2 Plus not powering on after sitting in storage with a flat battery
If the cell discharged below approximately 2.5V during storage, the BMS enters a lockout state and blocks normal charging to prevent damage to over-discharged cells. The phone will show nothing on screen — no charging animation, no response to the power button. Connect to a wall adapter rated at 5V/1A and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything. The BMS trickle-charges the cell back above the recovery threshold, after which normal charging resumes and the phone will boot.
