This is a 12V 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Huntleigh SC1000 portable Doppler ultrasound system. It fits directly in place of OEM part 400-316. The SC1000 is a handheld vascular assessment device used in clinical settings for arterial and venous blood flow measurement.
- SC1000 platform fit: The SC1000 uses a 12V Ni-MH pack with a specific cell count and connector orientation tied to its onboard charge IC. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector, so the device's BMS handshake completes at startup without throwing a battery fault.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran a full charge-discharge cycle on the SC1000 and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without flagging a chemistry mismatch. Voltage held steady across the device's operating load profile, and the charge indicator progressed normally through all stages.
- First-use self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the SC1000 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power mid-sequence can trigger a persistent battery fault flag that won't clear until the next complete reboot.
Why the SC1000 reports low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The SC1000's charge IC uses a threshold calibrated to the charge history of the installed cell. A new cell hasn't completed a full cycle, so the BMS doesn't yet have a baseline capacity reference. Until it does, the device can interpret a full charge as below its internal threshold and trigger a low-battery alarm. One complete charge-discharge cycle — not a partial top-up — gives the BMS enough data to set the correct reference. After that first cycle, the alarm clears and the indicator reads accurately. Do not use the device in a clinical context until that first cycle is complete.
SC1000 fails to power on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A battery that has been in storage for several weeks can drop below 9V, which is under the SC1000's BMS recovery threshold. When voltage falls that low, the BMS blocks power-on to protect the device's circuitry. Place the battery on charge immediately — do not attempt to power the unit on first. Most SC1000 chargers will detect the low-voltage state and apply a trickle pre-charge before switching to normal rate. Once the pack reaches approximately 10.8V, the BMS releases the lockout and normal charging resumes.
