ThinkPad X30 shutting down hard at 20–30% charge shown
This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't been calibrated against the new cells — the percentage shown on screen doesn't match real remaining voltage. Under combined CPU and display load the pack hits the BMS low-voltage cutoff before the OS reaches its own shutdown threshold. The laptop powers off without warning because actual cell voltage drops below 9V while the uncalibrated gauge still reads 20–30%. Force one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge and the fuel gauge IC recalibrates — confirmed stable at 10.8V resting after the process.
