Intermec CK70 / CK71 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-046-001)
This 3.7V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Intermec CK70 and CK71 rugged mobile computers. Both handhelds are used for barcode scanning and data collection in warehouse and retail environments. It also cross-references OEM part numbers 318-046-011, 1001AB01, 1001AB02, and AB18.
- CK70 and CK71 compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V battery rail, share the same connector footprint, and use the same BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both devices without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan-trigger inrush events and sustained wireless polling loads. The BMS held voltage without false cutoff under combined radio and imager draw.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum charge, and starting from a full cell prevents false BMS trips on the first use.

A new Li-ion pack resting at storage voltage can confuse the CK70 cradle's charge controller, which expects a handshake above a minimum threshold before starting the charge cycle. The dock may flag an error or sit idle rather than charge. Clean the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle slot with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly. If the error clears within 30 seconds, the cell voltage was within range and charging will proceed normally toward 4.2V per cell.

The CK70 pulls from the battery for both the imager and the 802.11 radio simultaneously during a fast scan sequence. If the cell is aged or only partially charged, combined inrush from both loads can sag pack voltage enough to trip the radio stack offline. The scanner may appear functional but drops its network session mid-burst. Charge the pack fully before a high-volume shift, and confirm resting voltage sits at or above 3.7V before seating the device in a picker's holster.
