This 3.7V Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Juniper Mesa 2 and MS2 handheld GPS receiver, a field instrument used for surveying, mapping, and geospatial data collection. Capacity is 10400mAh (38.48Wh), matching the standard Mesa 2 battery footprint. It fits the standard Mesa 2 and the 7" Mesa 2 variant.

Mesa 2 BMS lockout after the pack sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Mesa 2 pack drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a deep-discharge lockout state and the instrument will not power on or accept a charge. This is a protection function, not cell failure. To recover, connect the Mesa 2 to a wall charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes — the charger applies a low-current trickle that nudges the cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.9V per cell. Once the charge LED activates normally, the pack has cleared lockout and will charge to full.
GPS data logging session resets or freezes mid-survey with battery percentage still showing high
Under sustained GPS acquisition combined with active data logging, the Mesa 2 draws more current than during standby — this sustained load can cause a momentary voltage dropout if the cell is aged or the BMS trips on a brief current spike. The instrument interprets this as a power fault and resets, even if the displayed percentage looked healthy moments before. A new pack with full cell capacity handles the sustained draw without the sag that triggers the reset. If the issue persists after fitting a fresh battery, check that the SD card and any connected peripherals are not adding combined draw that pushes the BMS threshold.
