Kenwood Grati FG100 / FG150 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (SY9541)
This is a 2.4V, 2200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Kenwood Grati FG100 and FG150 cordless food grinders. It fits the FG-100 and FG-150 variant designations as well. When the original cell degrades and the grinder loses power mid-use, this is the direct swap using OEM part number SY9541 (also cross-referenced as BF11956).
- FG100 and FG150 platform fit: Both models run the same 2.4V single-cell Ni-MH pack with the same connector footprint and BMS handshake. The cell housing dimensions are 86.60 × 35.30 × 22.80mm — the same physical envelope across the FG100 and FG150 series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through repeated grinding loads — including dry spice and hard nut passes — and confirmed the BMS holds charge correctly and the cell voltage stabilises at 2.4V under load without triggering a premature cutoff.
- Contact drying after kitchen use: Dry the charging contacts with a cloth before placing the unit back on charge. Steam and moisture from food preparation settle on the metal contacts and trigger a BMS protection fault that blocks charging entirely until the contacts are fully dry.
Motor power dropping mid-grind on the FG100
The FG100's motor draws significantly more current when processing dense loads — whole peppercorns, hard dried spices, or packed nuts. A degraded Ni-MH cell cannot sustain the current demand, and voltage sags below the BMS cutoff threshold mid-cycle. The grinder stalls or slows noticeably before the cell is empty. A fresh 2200mAh cell at 2.4V holds voltage under that surge current long enough to complete a full grinding pass without dropout.
Grinder won't charge after sitting unused for several months
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and if the FG100 sits unused long enough, the cell voltage can drop below the BMS re-initialisation threshold. The charger reads the cell as a fault condition and refuses to begin a charge cycle. To recover a deeply discharged cell, apply a short trickle charge using a compatible Ni-MH charger set to a low rate — this nudges the cell voltage above the BMS floor, typically around 1.0V, after which normal charging resumes.
