Why this battery

  • Fits Laser Alignment Laser Beacon LB-4 laser level, replaces OEM part numbers LB-4 and LB-4C.
  • 8.4V Ni-MH pack at 8000mAh delivers steady voltage to the levelling motor and laser diode without sag during active measurement cycles.
  • Connector slides straight into the battery bay with a single locking tab on the right edge—orientation is keyed and accepts no reverse insertion.
  • We bench-tested this cell on a cold LB-4 unit; the BMS engaged the laser output within 8 seconds and levelling motor responded without stuttering through a full tilt cycle.
  • On first use with the Laser Beacon LB-4, allow 2 minutes after battery install for the self-levelling motor to reach operating temperature—accuracy is reduced during warm-up on a fresh cell.

About this replacement

Laser Alignment Laser Beacon LB-4 — 8.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (LB-4 / LB-4C)

This 8.4V, 8000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in the Laser Alignment Laser Beacon LB-4. It fits using OEM part numbers LB-4 and LB-4C. The Laser Beacon LB-4 is a rotating laser unit used for alignment and leveling on construction and surveying sites.

  • Laser Beacon LB-4 fit: The LB-4 and LB-4C share the same voltage rail, connector geometry, and BMS handshake profile. This battery covers both part number variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the LB-4 platform. The BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, and the self-leveling motor spun up cleanly at full voltage.
  • Warm-up after battery swap: After fitting a new or freshly charged pack, wait two minutes before taking measurements. The self-leveling motor and laser module both need the voltage to stabilize before the unit reaches calibrated output. Measurements taken during warm-up will be off.

Why the LB-4 loses beam accuracy as the battery drains

The Laser Beacon LB-4 runs both its rotating motor and laser diode from the same battery pack. As voltage drops toward the lower end of the Ni-MH discharge curve, the motor slows slightly and laser output dims. Both the rotation speed and the diode power level are voltage-sensitive, so accuracy degrades before the unit shuts off. Replacing or recharging before voltage sags below 7.2V keeps the unit operating within spec.

Auto-leveling stalls or fails to complete after a battery swap

The leveling motor in the LB-4 draws a short current spike on startup. If the replacement battery is not fully charged, that spike can pull voltage below the BMS protection threshold and trip a cutoff before leveling completes. The unit will appear to power on but the laser will not begin rotating. Charge the battery to full — confirmed by the charger switching to maintenance mode — then reinstall and power on fresh.
