Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
Ni-CD cells shipped from storage often sit at a lower resting voltage than the fitting's float acceptance window expects. When the controller sees an unfamiliar voltage on the terminals, it holds the fault or charge state rather than switching to green. This is not a faulty cell. Leave the fitting on mains power for 24 hours — the controller will complete its charge cycle and the indicator should move to green once the cell reaches approximately 5.4–5.6V fully charged across the four cells.
Emergency light dims partway through a duration test
A cell that has not completed one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 2000mAh on the first discharge. The output voltage drops below the fitting's low-voltage cutoff sooner than expected, and the light dims or cuts out before the test duration ends. The fix is a 24-hour full charge before the test, followed by one complete discharge cycle. After one full charge-discharge cycle, the cell reaches rated capacity and the fitting will sustain output for the full duration.
