It replaces OEM part numbers L14L3P21, L14M3P21, and the associated 5B10-series Lenovo SKUs. Fits the slim-profile Edge 2 15 chassis and restores full mobile operation when the original cell has degraded or failed.

The Edge 2-1580 BIOS reads learned cycle data stored in the old cell's EEPROM and compares it against the new pack during the first boot. Because the new cell has no discharge history, the firmware flags it as degraded or unknown. This is a data mismatch, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running the battery learn cycle — full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then a continuous charge to 100% — rewrites that data and clears the health warning on the next restart.

When a cell ages, its voltage drops sharply under combined CPU and display load before the fuel gauge IC has reported a low state. The laptop sees a voltage cliff the OS wasn't tracking, and the system cuts power instantly to protect the board. If this happens with a new replacement cell, the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new chemistry — it is still using charge curves from the old pack. Complete two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles; by the third cycle the fuel gauge re-maps to the actual cell voltage curve and the early shutdown stops.
