BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell
The IdeaPad S210 BIOS reads health data from EEPROM registers written by the original cell. When a new cell arrives, those registers don't match the new cell's chemistry profile, so the BIOS flags the battery as degraded even though the cell is fresh. This is not a fault with the replacement — it's a data mismatch. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% gives the fuel gauge IC enough data to rewrite those registers. After two cycles the health warning clears and the reported capacity stabilises.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The S210's CPU and display together draw enough current that a miscalibrated gauge hits its low-voltage threshold earlier than the percentage readout suggests. The cell voltage at that point is typically dropping below 10.0V under load — which triggers the hardware shutdown before the OS can gracefully power down. The fix is the same calibration cycle: discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge fully to 100V without interruption. Repeat once more if the shutdown point is still showing above 15%.
