- VS995 / V20 platform compatibility: The VS995, V20, H990ds, and US996 all run the same removable battery bay with identical connector placement and voltage rails. LG used BL-44E1F across these variants specifically because the BMS handshake and cutoff thresholds are matched to the Snapdragon 820 power delivery requirements on this platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full discharge-charge sequence on a VS995 unit. The BMS accepted charge current without fault codes, held the 4.35V upper cutoff, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage threshold under a sustained load pull.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC build a new discharge curve against the replacement cell before high-current charging pushes amperage into an uncalibrated state register.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the VS995 after a cell swap
The VS995 fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the old cell. When a new cell goes in, the IC still references that old curve. At around 20–30% reported charge, the new cell's actual voltage drops below what the modem and display draw can sustain — even though the gauge still shows capacity remaining. The phone shuts off to protect the cell. One full slow-charge cycle forces the coulomb counter to reset against the new cell's actual voltage profile, and the false-floor shutdowns stop.
USB fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement
Some users see standard 5W charging only after installing a new BL-44E1F, even on chargers that previously delivered fast charge. The charge IC negotiates the fast-charge protocol only after confirming BMS readiness — on a fresh cell that hasn't completed a full cycle, the IC defaults to a conservative current profile. Run one complete discharge down to automatic shutoff and charge back to 100% on a standard charger first. After that cycle, fast charge re-enables on the next connection.
