Charge indicator staying red after fitting a new cell
Lithonia charge controllers use a float acceptance window to confirm a valid cell is present. A cell that has sat in storage can arrive with a resting voltage below that window — typically under 1.0V — which the controller reads as a fault rather than a dischargeable cell. The controller will not switch to green until the cell voltage climbs into the acceptance band during the initial charge cycle. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour charge before drawing any conclusions; most cells recover to an acceptable resting voltage of around 1.2V within that window.
Emergency light dims noticeably partway through a duration test
This happens when a newly installed cell has not completed its first full conditioning charge before the test is run. Ni-Cd cells need at least one uninterrupted charge cycle to reach rated capacity — the 1200mAh figure assumes a fully conditioned cell. A partially charged cell will deliver adequate lumens at the start of a test but sag as internal resistance climbs under sustained load. Charge the unit for a minimum of 24 hours on mains, then run the duration test; cell voltage under load should hold above 1.0V throughout.
