This is a 7.2V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Makita 4072D and 4072DW cordless handheld vacuums. It slots into the same battery bay as the original and restores suction power without replacing the vacuum. Capacity is 3000mAh (21.6Wh), matching OEM part numbers 678114-9, 678132-7, and 678135-1.
- 4072D and 4072DW fitment: Both models run the same 7.2V battery platform with an identical connector and bay geometry. The BMS in this cell communicates with the Makita charger the same way the original does — no adapter, no workaround needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a 4072D unit. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low voltage, and the charger accepted the handshake without fault codes or charging interruptions.
- Dock charging on the 4072D: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on its charging dock continuously between uses. Ni-MH cells in low-draw vacuums degrade faster under constant trickle charge than under normal use-and-charge cycles. Charge to full, then remove it from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
Ni-MH cells under a partially blocked filter work harder than rated draw allows. The motor pulls more current to compensate for restricted airflow, which drags cell voltage down faster than the indicator anticipates. The indicator reads state of charge — not actual voltage under load — so it lags behind real capacity. Clean the filter first, then retest; a clear filter restores normal motor draw and the battery lasts its full cycle again.
Motor cuts out briefly then recovers during use
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty battery. When sustained suction restriction forces the motor to spike beyond the cell's current limit, the BMS disconnects to protect the cells, then resets once current drops. It happens most often when the nozzle is pressed hard against carpet or when the filter is partially clogged. Clear the filter, check the nozzle for blockage, and confirm the discharge path is unobstructed before replacing the battery.
