This is a 10.8V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for Makita cordless vacuum cleaners using OEM part number 196885-1. It fits the CL103D, CL103DW, CL103DX, CL105D, and more than a dozen additional models in the same family. Voltage and cell count match the original specification exactly.
- CL103D family compatibility: All models in this series share the same 10.8V Li-ion platform, connector type, and BMS handshake. The charger identifies the pack through the BMS communication line — this replacement uses a matching protocol so the charger accepts and terminates the charge cycle correctly.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a CL103D unit under repeated suction cycles, including sustained motor load on carpet attachments. The BMS held stable across charge and discharge without triggering false overcurrent cutoff.
- Dock charging on cordless vacuums: Do not leave this vacuum permanently on the charging dock. Continuous trickle charge degrades Li-ion cell capacity significantly faster than charging only when the pack is depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor draws more current than rated to maintain airflow. That current spike pulls the pack voltage down, and suction weakens even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction recovers, the battery is not the cause. If sag persists with a clean filter, check resting pack voltage; it should read at or above 11.8V off the charger.
Motor cuts out mid-use then comes back after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. It happens when restricted airflow forces the motor to pull a sustained high-current draw — the BMS interprets that as a fault condition and disconnects the pack. The trip resets once the pack temperature drops slightly, which is why the vacuum restarts after a brief pause. Check the filter and all suction pathways for blockages. If the cutout happens immediately on a clean, unobstructed unit, measure pack voltage under load — a degraded cell will sag below the BMS cutoff threshold faster than a fresh one.
