Why the Airflo 12 alarms low battery on a freshly charged replacement
The Airflo 12's charge IC applies a conservative upper voltage limit when it detects a cell it hasn't profiled before. A new Ni-MH cell fresh from storage reads a slightly different internal resistance than a conditioned OEM cell, and the BMS interprets this as a partially charged or degraded pack. This triggers the low-battery alarm even when the cell is at full state of charge. One complete charge-discharge cycle through the device recalibrates the BMS threshold and clears the alarm permanently.
Airflo 12 not powering on after replacement cell sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage at roughly 1–2% per day, and the Airflo 12's BMS has a minimum recovery voltage below which it will not attempt to power the pump. If the replacement cell has been sitting, it may have dropped below this threshold — typically around 10.5V for a 12V Ni-MH pack. Connect the device to the charger for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. This allows the charge IC to push the cell above the BMS recovery floor and re-enable the start sequence.
