One full discharge down to auto-shutoff followed by a complete charge resets the coulomb counter and maps the new cell's actual voltage cliff — typically near 3.2V under modem load.
Device not powering on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge in storage, and if a replacement cell drops below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters lockout to prevent cell damage. The phone will show no response — no charge indicator, no boot — even when connected to a charger. Connect the phone to a wall adapter rated at least 5V/1A and leave it undisturbed for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. Once the BMS sees voltage recover above its wake threshold, charging resumes normally and the phone will boot.
